   Press release
Forget what you thought you knew about African urban culture: Touching Base, MTV Base's new mini-documentary series will present you to a whole new generation of Afro-cool, and introduce you to the street savvy, super-creative characters whose talent is taking on the world!

Starting 6 June 2011, Touching Base (MTV Base, DStv Channel 322) is a new documentary series that will highlight talented young individuals from across Africa.  Taking the form of inspiring and beautifully-crafted two-minute documentaries, Touching Base shines a light on Africa's new wave of creative entrepreneurs, spotlighting impressive game-changers from across the continent who are trailblazing in the fields of photography, fashion, illustration, art, filmmaking, music and more.
Shot on location in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, Touching Base follows some of Africa's most inspirational young entrepreneurs including:
Clarence Peters - One of the most recognized music video makers in Nigeria and a passionate filmmaker with exceptional talent, Clarence studied film in South Africa for two years before returning to Nigeria to change the music video game forever. He has worked long and hard to increase the production quality of the music videos coming out of Lagos and is now the "go-to" guy for video production in Nigeria.

Cyrus Kabiru – The cool Kenyan artist behind C-Stunners, spectacular glasses-cum-artworks made from recycled materials. Cyrus started making C-Stunners when he was a kid and now can't stop.

Bolaji – After attending film school in Los Angeles, Bolaji returned to Lagos with a mission to shake up the Nollywood film industry. Focusing on Nigerian stories, Bolaji recently finished production on his first short film – a supernatural thriller called "nkiru", shot on a mysterious island just off the Lagos coastline.

Jimmy Chuchu – Renaissance man Jimmy Chuchu is an I.T. dude who taught himself graphic design, went into advertising, felt it would steal his soul, borrowed money from his brother to buy a camera and then became a brilliant photographer!   At the same time, Jimmy and two friends from college started Kenya's first ever electro-pop outfit, called it "Just a Band" and got themselves signed to an American label.  Jimmy subsequently moved into motion picture and now creates all the band's music videos together with one of the band's other members.

Bayo – This Nigerian fashion designer originally designed under the label Onyx and Pearl but is currently launching a movement/label in Lagos called the Orange Movement. A self-confessed member of the "cool to be uncool" scene, Bayo's mission is to make a space for those kids that always felt strange or out of place.

Jahawi – A Kenyan DJ who's pioneering the growing electronic dance music scene in Nairobi. Aside from DJ-ing at home and abroad he plays guitar and piano, is a producer and sound engineer who has released singles worldwide.

Touching Base premieres on MTV Base between 18:25 CAT and 18:30 CAT on Monday 6 June - look out for it on MTV Base!

Jerilyn plans big for music video

Posted: 30 May 2011 09:30 PM PDT

Exotic singer Jerrilyn Mulbah who dropped two singles recently plans to release her music video in July. The video would be shot in Lagos Nigeria and according to the petite singer, all arrangements are in top gear.

"I am working really hard towards making the Mr DJ video a reality.  We are bringing in new equipment into the country that would be used for the video and we intend to work with one of the best hands here in Nigeria"
"It is a very exciting concept involving a lot of professional dancers. We are shooting in over 10 different locations over a period of one month. We have exciting props and special effects planned for the video", says an excited Jerrilyn. Badex, a fast-rising director, who just came in from Singapore with an award from Cannes festival under his belt would be directing the video.

Gifted beyond-limits, Jerrilyn is distinguished by her diminutive stature, her carriage and her inspiring story. The Liberian girl is one of the few who have chosen to live above the wreck of the civil war and is, against all odds, striding towards stardom and a successful music career.
The Album titled dancing on top of the world would be released before the end of this year, almost four years after her first public appearance in 2007.

As a tool for change, Jerrilyn's music is enabling her to inspire and empower young women like herself, who have been through similar circumstances to stand for something in order not to fall for just anything.  Her amazing life story has allowed numerous women, especially those indigenous to Africa, to value their own lives in every way possible.

Jerrilyn who has two debut singles Molejo and Mr DJ making waves across radio stations in Nigeria says she hopes to entertain her fans with the upcoming video which would hit TV stations across Nigeria in July 2011.

Project fame's Chidinma ready for debut album

Posted: 30 May 2011 08:33 PM PDT

Chidinma, the petite singer with the strong voice who captivated the hearts of millions and became the first female winner of MTN Project Fame in the Season 3 edition of the highly popular music talent show is set to drop her highly anticipated debut album.

Already the talented and widely- loved singer has released her first single Jankolikoko featuring veteran pop star Sound Sultan. Within a short space of its release the song is already getting rave reviews from music critics all over the country and has been getting steadily increasing airplay from radio stations nationwide. The song has that instant replay factor which will make you keep playing it over and over again.

"I am happy about the positive response towards my new single. Project Fame really taught me on how to be a total artiste and it was what I have learnt that I am putting back in my song. Jankolikoko is just the tip of the iceberg. I am improving my craft everyday" says Chidinma.

Chidinma broke into limelight and entered the history books after she won perhaps the toughest edition of MTN Project Fame having to battle her way to the top prize amongst stiff competitors such as the Ghanaian wonder kid Kesse Frimpong who many had tipped to win; Eyo, Ochuko and others. For all her hard work and growth as a singer and performer Chidinma took home a brand new Toyota RAV4, 2.5 million naira and a record deal.

Since her groundbreaking win, she has been hard at work burning the mid night candle at the studio and working with some of Nigeria's most talented songwriters and producers. She has already worked with the likes of super-producer Cobhams Asuquo who gave the world Asa, Naeto C's hit producer Tee-Y Mix and the godfather of contemporary highlife J. Martins. The petite singer also has plans to work with brilliant producers and songwriters such as Suspect, eLDee the Don and Omolara Ayodele.

"Right now I am in the studio with really talented artistes, songwriters and producers. I am putting a whole lot of energy into my first album because the expectations are high. I not scared but challenged to produce an album that will reflect who I am artistically as well as make an impact in the Nigerian music industry" says Chidinma about recording her first album.

The video of Jankolikoko will be directed by none other than Nigeria's number one music video director Clarence Peters. If the success of past winners of Project Fame is anything to go by then Chidinma should be the next big pop star we should look out far. The first winner of Project Fame, Iyanya has gone on to become a household name since 2008 while the winner of Project Fame Season 2 is steadily climbing the charts and is set to drop his own debut album.

Chidinma Ekile was born on the 2nd of May, 1989 into a family of seven siblings. She hails from Mbaitoli, Imo State. She grew up in Ketu, Lagos under strict and disciplinary parents. She acquired her primary school education at Caleb International Primary/Secondary School and Science Foundation Schools. She started singing at the age of six with the children's choir in her church under the guidance of her mom.

She discovered MTN Project Fame in 2009. A year later she registered to be part of the show which had already become so popular amongst millions of Nigerians and auditioned at Ultima Studios. She was chosen amongst the last twenty four to be in the Fame Academy. Under the tutelage of seasoned professionals in the Academy, Chidinma grew from strength to strength. In the beginning she was shy but after months of vocal training and positive reinforcement from the instructors she grew into her own and easily became a fan favourite.

Chidinma's yet-to-be-titled album will be available in all major outlets and stores nationwide as well as on the internet
