Okay, so you know already – Darey's new bodies of work will hit the streets on Monday February 28, 2011!

After almost two years of waiting, fans can now heave a heavy sigh of relief as the multiple award-winning singer-songwriter finally releases his new double album DOUBLE DARE digitally and physically. Yes – not one; but two albums, specially created over an extensive period, by Darey and several collaborators in Lagos, London, South Africa, Abuja and America.

The new albums, released in two different CDs (differently titled HEART and BEAT to form the word HEARTBEAT) are 'products of necessity', says a statement from Darey's label Soul Muzik. On the one hand, the first CD Vol.1: HEART parades a rare, mind-blowing set of timeless slow to mid-tempo R&B/Soul tunes that truly expose the naked essence of Darey's wide vocal range. While on the other hand, the second disc Vol. 2: BEAT contains more up-tempo dance tracks on which Darey exhibits his edgy style, while still displaying his virtuoso vocal prowess.

Personally, fans will see the two sides of Darey, especially the fun-playful aspect, of a man mostly known to be straight-up 'smooth, calm and collected.' And musically, they'll experience the double-dimension of his art; the interesting diversity of his talent, and the depth of his skills. At a time when most artists prefer to play it safe, lingering within the confines of convention, towing the line of the ordinary to remain relevant, Darey prefers to stand on the ledge, daring to maintain his artistic distinctiveness.

Recently celebrated by City People Magazine as the King of R&B in Nigeria, Darey remains the continent's most remarkable R&B/Soul recording/performing artiste. And he's been crowned king of that genre many times – by many organisations, including Channel O, HipHopWorld Awards, Soundcity and many more who have at different times honoured him for his outstanding works.

The new albums, released on the Soul Muzik imprint, and available in stores nationwide, as well as on iTunes and other online stores, was produced and mixed at SMS, Abuja. And it features a community of talents, most of them Darey's friends. Timaya appears on 'Back To Sender', Psquare appear on 'Provider', Mo'Cheddah spits on 'Turn Me On', while Grammy award-winning rapper, and hiphop bestseller Chamillionaire joins Darey to deliver a spectacular remix of 'The Way You Are'.

'It was fun working with all these amazing talents', Darey says. 'And I'm very honoured to have worked with everyone on the album. From producers to writers, engineers, singers, rappers and all.'

On Chamillionaire, he says, 'we hooked up on Twitter. He liked the beats to 'The way you are' and wanted to be on a remix. I was happy to oblige. And I'm still amazed by what we were able to come up with. I Hope you like it!

'It's such a big big blessing to be able to create such beautiful, fun music. And I'm blessed to have such great talents like Cobhams, Don Jazzy, El Dee, Wayne McNeish and Ayodele Basil as friends and producers. The album is what it is because of the help of so many people, especially my team at Soul Muzik. But, essentially, it is for the benefit, the enjoyment, and satisfaction of my friends spread across the world…'
From next week, Darey will embark on a series of tours, across the media, nightclubs, campuses and other institutions, as he takes DOUBLE DARE all over the country, and eventually across the world…

Double Dare Album Synopsis

At a time when most artists prefer to play it safe, lingering within the confines of convention, towing the line of the ordinary to remain relevant, Darey prefers to stand on the ledge, daring to maintain his artistic distinctiveness. After nearly two years in the studio, Darey births a double disc album aptly entitled 'Double Dare' which is broken up into two volumes that depict two sides of the R&B crooner.

Volume 1 entitled 'Heart' is a soul-drenched collection of timeless slow to mid-tempo tunes that truly expose the naked essence of his wide vocal range.  The compilation has a variety of musical styles ranging from smooth R N' B ballads to mid tempo Highlife fusion tracks.  Within this volume, true Darey Fans can expect to experience flashbacks of his intense vocal performances seen by over 100 million viewers on the widely watched Project Fame TV show, where he first emerged into the Limelight.
Volume 2 ... 'beat' contains a set of more up-tempo dance tracks which depicts Darey's edgy style, while still displaying his virtuoso vocal delivery.  Despite the dance rhythms and percussion heavy grooves within this Chapter, Darey still successfully weaves together, themes that stray away from the cliché topics of the day.

In essence, 'Double Dare' contains a tune for almost every mood, age bracket and socio-economic segment.  In addition, there is an overall message for listeners, especially the youth and this is summarised in the album title itself Double Dare—a call to action, encouraging uniqueness, individuality and freedom of expression.

Nairobi is about to witness a major invasion of Nollywood stars as several major Nollywood actors are set to descend on Nairobi for the AMAA (Afican Movie Academy Awards) nomination night and musical concert.

The African Movie Academy Awards or the "African Oscars" have not attained the pomp and colour associated with the American Oscars but we are heading there.
The seventh edition of the awards has the 2011 Nomination Night scheduled in Nairobi this Sunday, two months ahead of the award ceremony.
The African Movie Academy Awards is an offshoot of the African Film Academy and aims at honouring the brightest and best actors, actresses, directors and writers in the African film industry, besides promoting their works internationally.
The best year for Kenya at the African Oscars was in 2009 the country had seven entries. That year, Wanuri Kahiu won five awards including Best Picture and Director with her bomb blast inspired film, From a Whisper.
Last year there were only two local films. Judy Kibinge's Peace wanted Alive, a documentary on the 2007 post election violence, and Nathan Collet's Togetherness Supreme that was entered in the Best Film in African Language category.
The film, also about post election violence bagged Wilson Maina Most promising actor Award while Teddy Onyango and Bill Oloo, won for Best Performances by a Child Actor. "It feels great" said Collect.
The Best Picture in the Africa Oscars 2010 went to Nigerian director, Kunle Afolayan's film, Figurine, which also won AMAA Achievement in Cinematography, while the Best Directors award went to Ghana's Shirley Frimpong-Manso's film, The Perfect Picture.
The awards ceremony was held in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
Local actor Godfrey Odhiambo, a 2009 AMAA nominee for Best Actor in a Lead Role co-hosted the 2010 awards with Nollywood star, Rita Dominic.

Open auditions announced for Big Brother Africa 6

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 02:12 AM PST

    Press release

With the February 27 deadline looming and just a week left for wannabe entrants to submit their entries for BIG BROTHER AFRICA 6, M-Net has made an exciting announcement for all those people who have left it too late to enter!

With a vast amount of entries streaming in from across the 14 participating countries, M-Net has confirmed that it will also run open auditions in the different countries – so that those people who didn't submit a paper entry, still get one last chance to try out for the new season.
"We're extremely pleased with the response that this year's call to entry has had," says M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi. "Going into a 6th season, we knew that there would be interest but the scale of this interest has been quite phenomenal with over 5000 entries already received, certainly among the highest number of entries for any edition of Big Brother Africa."
She goes on to say, "However, we're aware that there are always people who leave it too late to enter and then arrive at the audition venues, where our teams are holding phase two audition sessions, to plead for a chance to try out. So this year, in addition to paper entries, we'll also have open audition days. This way, if you submitted a paper entry, your entry has already been evaluated and successful candidates will be called and seen first at audition venues. But those people who didn't do a paper entry will have one last chance to enter when our selection team is in the participating countries. They simply need to arrive at the audition venue on the relevant days."

"But I would strongly suggest that people opt to submit a written entry. There's still some time to do this! Your entry definitely gets priority with our selection teams who read through it in detail and are able to spend time working through the information."

To submit a written entry for the show, go to the online application form and complete your entry online. Or download the application form, complete and email it back to bba@endemol.co.za. The deadline for all written entries to be submitted is 27 February 2011 - so don't delay.

Entry is open to would-be housemates who are 21-years or older, English speaking, have a valid passport and is a citizen of any one of the 14 participating countries (Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe). Remember that all entrants must be tolerant of views and lifestyle choices other than their own and must have the social flexibility to live in close proximity with others.

BIG BROTHER AFRICA 6 begins on Sunday May 1 this year and once more, the dedicated DStv channel 198 will be providing 24/7 live coverage for the 91 day duration of the series.

Toni,George leave Nigerian idol

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 11:43 PM PST

"I'm not sad I am leaving, I am really happy for the exposure I got in this competition, I want to thank the judges for bringing me back out of the thousands that left the competition. I love you all, my fellow contestants and those working behind the scene to make Nigerian Idol a success" were Tonii's last words on stage

After an interesting twist last Thursday, Anis told the audience, with a sober expression on his face, that fan-favourite Tonii and Abuja-based George would be leaving. You will recall that Tonii was one of the contestants the judges brought back during the wild card episode. George, 25 is a hotelier at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.
The two contestants who recorded the two lowest votes after last Sunday's performance left the Etisalat sponsored show after performing for the last time on the Idol stage. George performed "knowing me, knowing you" by ABBA. Tonii performed "Lay all your love on me" also by ABBA
It was ABBA week on the show, with finalists performing different tracks from a vast ABBA repertoire.
Toni and george
Toni is one of the lucky three who got called back during the Wild Card episode of the show. Apart from being a singer, she plays the piano and writes her own songs. Her mature vocals and stirring interpretations has endured her to the judges especially Audu Maikori who has been her champion and the speculated author of her comeback to the show.

George's interest in music started from when he was a child. He learnt to play the piano at the age of nine and it has since become his passion. As a youth, he joined his choir and from there decided to go into music professionally based on encouraging comments he got from people who enjoyed his singing. However, in spite of his love for music, he went on to study Environmental Management and Geography at the university based on pressure from his family; a decision he does not regret as, according to him, school gave him a lot of exposure.

So far, Six finalists have now been evicted, as it continues to show to viewers and the remaining contestants that Nigerian Idol is like a jungle and only those with the highest votes will survive. Ola, Nina, AJ, Chito, Tonii and George are out of the competition, leaving seven finalists to battle for the grand prize of 7.5 million Naira, a car and a record deal with Sony BMG. The biggest prize of course, is an opportunity to become an international music star, and a proud ambassador of Nigerian music. The winner of Nigerian Idol will immediately go on to establish a recording and performing career, both locally – working with Nigerian labels and allied professionals- and internationally, through a guaranteed Sony BMG deal.
Nigerian Idol is sponsored by Etisalat, in Association with Sony and Pepsi.  Nigerian Idol Partners are Royal Exchange and Tom-tom with Support from MUD, SAA,
Starwood Hotel and Cool FM. The winner will finally emerge on March 27, 2011 at a star studded grand finale.
