Genevieve,banky w others win FAB Awards + pictures from the event Posted: 07 Dec 2010 03:51 PM PST It was a fantastic night as celebrities and fashionistas from all over Africa coverged at Landmark Village Victoria Island Lagos on Sunday December 5, for a Black Carpet Dinner event that saw celebs in creative wears troop out in their hundreds to enjoy a fabulous night of music and dance, fashion and style, and a lot to eat and drink. The FAB fashion show, showcasing exclusive designs from VLISCO'S latest fabric collection; Gallery Of Poems by Nigeria's own Lanre Da Silva-Ajayiand celebrated designer MAI, Ghanaian label Jil Couture and budding Nigerian talent from the UK, Re Bahia made the evening colourful as models paraded the stylish designs made from VLISCO'S latest Fabric. The event turned out to be a massive gathering of notable personalities from different works of life who have a lot in common, especially a passion for Fashion. Entertainers such as Sasha, Eldee, Seyi Law, Bez and Mo'cheddah thrilled the crowd with their performances, while Tee-A and Vixen guided guests through the night. T pain,D banj,and Big Nuz to perform at MAMA Awards Posted: 07 Dec 2010 08:32 AM PST MTV and Airtel today revealed that contemporary singer T-Pain is to visit Nigeria to perform at the 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel (MAMA). South African house trio Big Nuz and four-time MAMA winner D'Banj (Nigeria) will also perform at the show, which takes place at the Eko Expo Hall, Lagos on 11 December 2010. The MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel will be hosted by US hip-hop artist and actress Eve while guest presenters will include Dama Do Bling(Mozambique), Liquideep (South Africa), Nneka (Nigeria/USA), Nigerian striker Daniel Amokachi, supermodel Oluchi and film star Genevieve Nnaji. The news was announced today at a press conference at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, Nigeria by Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, in the presence of Mr Opeyemi Bamidele, The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Obinna Aniche, Group Marketing Manager, Airtel Africa and Joseph Hundah, Managing Director, Multichoice Nigeria. MTV Networks Africa also revealed that it has introduced an additional award category, Best Performance, for the 2010 edition of the show. The winners of Best Performance will be chosen by MTV. The awards now comprises a total of 13 separate award categories including Best Video, Brand:New, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Anglophone, Best Lusophone, Best Francophone, Best Group, Best Female, Best Male, Best International, Best Performance and MAMA Legend. Recording artist and civil rights campaignerMiriam Makeba has been honoured by MTV at the third annual MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel. The life and work of the South African singer and civil rights activist, who died in November 2008, will be celebrated at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel in Lagos on Saturday 11 December 2010.Makeba, whose stellar career spanned more than 50 years, was honoured by MTV for her musical talent and for her role in bringing African music and rhythms into the global spotlight. In her long and glittering career, Makeba performed for John F. Kennedy, dueted with Harry Belafonte and Paul Simon, brought African political issues into the mainstream consciousness and won comparisons with Ella Fitzgerald and FrankSinatra. A victim of oppression herself, Makeba fought tirelessly to ensure that others would be free from oppression, and was appointed a UN Goodwill ambassador in 1999. Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, "Miriam Makeba is a true legend and rightly celebrated throughout the world for her beautiful voice, fighting spirit and pioneering interpretation of African music."
