How Installing Shelves Can Solve Your Storage Woes

Many people find that they do not have adequate storage space for their possessions. Papers and books get left in heaps, clothing is draped around the bedroom and the kitchen cabinets need total reorganizing to be efficient. Adding extra storage by installing shelves in the home can be the solution.

Because of the wide variety of shelving types available, homeowners can choose from strong adjustable metal units for garage or basement storage areas. Floating and glass shelves and wall mounted cubes can make an attractive display area that is not only serviceable, but also decorative. .

It is important is to choose the type of shelving that best suits what you intend to store on it. Take into consideration the weight you will be supporting, the location of the new storage, and how it will look in the space you intend to place it. Choose a type of shelving that suits the room or area, and that best does the job for you. This will allow you to organize your belongings and eliminate clutter in your home.

For heavy efficient garage storage to take care of seasonally used items like camping and sports gear, workshop tools and yard maintenance tools, you can find shelving units at your local home improvement center that will work well for you. Another alternative that is more economical would be to build your own from lumber and plywood.

Kitchens often lack sufficient spaces for storage. You can add open shelving along a bare wall to hold bowls, containers of staple supplies or just to show off special items. Within the kitchen cabinets, look for a vertical space that you could add dividers for efficient storage of thin items like cookie and baking sheets, cooling racks or cutting boards.

One way to make lower kitchen cabinets more accessible is to install sliding shelves. These can be mounted at several levels within the cabinet, with full shelf extension. This a good addition for making that hard-to-reach space much more available. A good use of these areas is for storing larger kitchen utensils and machines that are used only occasionally.

Do you hate looking at your bedroom closet because its too crowded to find anything? Wire shelving is a good choice for creating an organized closet space. Home improvement stores stock these, and will even cut the wire units to size for you. Mounted on wall brackets, they are easy to install, and can be adjusted to to suit your needs.

Within the bathroom, the wall space above the toilet is a great place to add a couple of shelves or a cabinet to store towels and other sundries. Small baskets can hold extra bars of soap, first aid supplies or toiletries, keeping the from cluttering up the counter near the sink. Place the baskets on shelving or under the sink.

Placing a bookcase in a wide hallway is another great idea. Not only can it hold books, it's a good place to organize other items. If its near the exterior door, add some baskets to hold keys, mittens and gloves or hats. Other baskets could gather together the mail so nothing gets misplaced.

If your home is starting to be messy and cluttered, you can see that there are many solutions. Just by adding different types of shelves and storage units you will eliminate that clutter and make your home more efficient and welcoming.
