BasketMouth to host THE BIG FRIDAY SHOWS Posted: 05 Aug 2011 11:30 AM PDT Legendary Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has been revealed as the host of THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW - the edgy new Friday night music and entertainment show from MTV Networks Africa and STV. Airing every Friday night from 5 August, THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW brings fireworks, fun and Nigerian youth culture to Friday night TV. Among the regular slots featured on the show will be: interviews with the hottest Nigerian celebrities; entertainment news and gossip from the digital sphere in C-VON's and Bella Naija's V-Log of the week; a club review highlighting the best places to party when the weekend lands, and a weekly restaurant challenge where Lagos' top chefs create "THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW SPECIAL" for their menu. As you would expect from a funnyman of Basketmouth's stature, comedy will be a key component of the show – with side-splitting pranks, spoofs and zany skits bringing laughs aplenty to Friday night viewing. Episode one will see 2Face's seminal track 'African Queen' given a makeover as 'African Weave' – a humourous homage to fake hair - while Wiz Kid will be the first celebrity on the receiving end of one of THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW's soon-to be-legendarypranks! THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW cameras will regularly be out and about in Lagos – popping into the Rhythm FM studios to film an interview with one of their on-air personalities and their guest, or prowling the streets for fashion darlings and disasters in 'Cool and the Fool". Viewers will play a BIG part in THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW - so much so that every week a viewer will be given the opportunity to come to the studio and interview the week's star guest. Basketmouth will also read out his hot pick of the coolest Tweets, funniest emails, bizarre text messages and off-the-wall Facebook comments submitted by viewers. Music authority MTV Base will ensure that THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW features the best contemporary music – spotlighting the hottest music videos trending on Facebook, Twitter & SMS in the "The BFS Jams Countdown". Up-and-coming Naija artists will also get the chance to shine on the programme – performing only if they successfully complete the studio challenge. In his typical comic style, Basketmouth promises, "The Big Friday Show will give you more entertainment than a Super Eagles and Black Stars soccer match, more gossip than a group of women in a hair salon and more videos than Alaba has to offer!!!" Fast forward to the MTV Base block on STV every Friday at 18:00-19:00 for your big, big, BIG helping of THE BIG FRIDAY SHOW. | ||||||

Big Brother Africa winner Wendall Parson returned home to jubilant scenes at the Harare International Airport on Wednesday. The 23-year-old pilot was mobbed by dozens of screaming, flag-waving and vuvuzela-blowing fans after emerging from the arrivals terminal just after 1PM local time. Accompanied on the lunchtime flight from Johannesburg by his family, Wendall was driven in an open top safari truck from the airport with more than two dozen other vehicles behind. The US$200,000 winner appeared keen to share the spotlight with fellow contestant, Vimbai Mutinhiri, who arrived on the same flight with him and joined the impromptu parade through the streets of Harare. Vimbai, 24, was voted off the M-Net reality TV show in the penultimate week. Wendall Parson picked up a US$50,000 cash gift from President Robert Mugabe at State House on Thursday, while Vimbai Mutinhiri, evicted from the show in the penultimate week, received US$10,000. I want in a very special way to recognise the threesome who are here by virtue of their talents that we have discovered that they have," Mugabe said. The 91 days are meant to test you in terms of the capacity you have, the strength, the power you have physically. And indeed the strength and power you have intellectually." Property tycoon Phillip Chiyangwa, who mobilised US$300,000 for last year's runner-up Munyaradzi Chidzonga, said he was in talks with other businessmen to give gifts to Wendall and Vimbai.
