Is Flying Right For You?

By John Bravo

Some folks feel that getting your pilot's license requires determination, hard work, and a lot of money. We're joking about the money. Just a bit.

What do you need to get a pilot's license? Step back and look at the fundamental question - why do you want it?

If you said "I don't know. Just because I want it!" that's a pretty good answer. Nobody's making you do it, so if you hate aviation, anything flying related, and probably bubbles too, this isn't for you. That's all you need - a strong want to fly. Everything else is really superfluous. Pretty straightforward, right?

Pilots know about that indescribable feeling you get when you look up at the clear blue sky and begin feeling like you belong there. Aside from that purely carnal desire to climb into a cockpit and launch into the sky, there's a limitless number of different reason's to learn to fly. We'll go over some to get you noodling on it.

Just for Fun
Yup, this again! Okay this may not be a true and real one, but let's face it, it's a blast! Amazing beaches may only a few hours away. Sunshine isn't your idea of a great time? Go north and go camping in the Great White North. Where you go is virtually unlimited as the skies are yours.

Commercial Pilot
This one seems like a no-brainer, but if you want to become a commercial pilot, youll need to know how to fly. Imagine having one of the most amazing views from your office, one from 35,000 ft above the Earth, and one where you can take in the amazing beauty this great country has to offer.

Now how about this one? Your boss comes in and tells you to make slides for yet another "really important meeting". Something about TPS Reports and red staplers - ugh. Wouldn't it be amazing to throw off those corporate shackles and find your true calling way up in the air?

This is a great place to start. Keep in mind too, that we're no pilot puppy mill like other places that shall remain nameless. No two people are alike, so no two people will learn the same way. We'll customize the curriculum to each and every individual to make sure you get the most out of your instruction.

Business
Own a small business? Imagine how you can expand the your territory when any place in the southeast is just a stone's throw away. Say you've got a sales meeting in Memphis. Your alternatives are to drive (8 hours minimum) or fly commercial via Hartsfield (drive to the airport, go through security, wait for an hour, sit on the ramp, make the actual flight, wade through the airport again. You're back at 7-8 hours again). Forget all of that. You could fly yourself there in about 3 hours. Time is valuable and you've just made back 5 hours. Enough said.

Impressing that Special Someone
How impressive would it be to take someone on a date that's really special? You're all but guaranteed that'll leave an impression that's sure to impress. How creative is to take someone to the usual and boring dinner and a movie? How about the bar scene? Ugh. So, now you've got an agle. Here's where the second reason applies. If she begins to expect a time like that every time, you now know she's a gold digger. You're better off to dump her for someone else. Imagine the cash and hassle you've just saved. Time and money you can spend flying more!

We've gone over just a few of the millions of reason to learn how to fly. If you still need convincing, try an intro flight. That'll be all you need.
