Save Costs On Air Conditioning This Year - It's Going To Get Hot

By Charles Kesler

In summer, the regular US citizen family can spend about forty percent of their total electricity bill on just the air-conditioning of the house alone. You can scale back your regular bills by following these tips which will assist you in keeping your folks cool in the hot summer months.

Don't cool rooms that aren't used frequently. If you have central air-conditioning, close the vents in rooms like lavatories or guest bedrooms when those rooms aren't in use. Be certain to confirm your ductwork is correctly sealed and insulate vents that are in the cellar or loft, as these areas of the house do not need cooling. Another choice is to buy a movable or window air-con unit to chill one enormous room or area of the house at a time, without having to spend the energy to cool rooms that aren't in use. Modern movable air conditioners are efficient and quiet. They have the power to cool down a room quickly while saving you cash on your power charges. Be sure the unit you purchase is the right size for the room it is cooling. One that's too little will not be in a position to chill the room absolutely without consistently being on, while one that is too large will consume more energy than is necessary.

Use blinds or shades on your windows to dam the heat of the direct daylight. You may use window shutters on the outside of your house to dam the heat further. Keep your windows closed throughout the day to keep cool air in and the hot air out. At night, if it is cool outside, you can switch off the air conditioner, open your windows and turn on a fan for ventilation.

Make sure you replace the air filter in your air conditioning unit at least once a month for maximum efficiency and airflow. Dust or pet hair will eventually build up and block the cool air from traveling through the ducts, making the unit run longer and costing you excess money.

Using the stove, dishwasher and garments dryer generate heat. If feasible, attempt to delay using these appliances till evening when the weather gets a little cooler. If feasible, use your microwave for cooking or set fire to the barbeque and do some barbecuing outside. If you've got to cook on the oven, use your exhaust fan and cover pots to keep the heat from traveling all though your place.

If your air conditioner is more than fifteen years of age, you might need to invest in a modern unit. Today's air conditioners are built for high potency and are optimised for using less energy. Modern cooling systems can use up to 50% less energy as their older opposite numbers.

Being smart about how you cool your house will not only save you money, but will have a friendly impact on the environment as well. This summer, follow these helpful suggestions for a comfortable and more efficient home.
