Things To Know About Paying London Tradesman

By Ridley Richards

The number of people ripped off by builders in London is so high that they even make television programs about it. How do you make sure that you don't become one of these statistics? Finding good London tradesmen is about knowing what to look for. Here are our top three tips for finding someone who will offer a service worth paying for.

1. Established. Mobiles are great, but they are also disposable. Would you bank with someone who only gave you a mobile contact number? No. So why would you trust comfort of your home, your quality of life to someone like this?

2. Access to range of London builders and tradesmen. There are very few home improvements which only require one skill. Imagine that you are fitting a new bathroom. You will need a plumber, a tiler, a decorator, and possibly even a carpenter. Although it is possible to find a plumber who can do all of, why not have a specialist for each task at a similar price.

3. Personable. It doesn't matter how skilled or cheap a tradesman is, if you can't hold a conversation with them you are unlikely to complete a successful project with them.

There is a misconception that specialized tradesmen are over priced. Before you spend any money it is worth analyzing exactly what you want. Do you want someone to come in with the correct skills and tools to do a job, complete the job to a high standard and leave? Sounds pretty perfect to me. Or would you rather someone come in, have a go, pop out for more parts, make a few adjustments, take three times as long, and get there in the end?

Doing your home up is an ongoing process and you should view it as such. Decide what you want to achieve. Break it down into its component parts and deal with each section separately. Before you spend any money find someone you can work with. Find someone who has the knowledge and access to the best tradesmen in London. Knowing and managing tradesmen is a skill in itself.
