Governor Mimiko hosts Film Makers and Scholars

      Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State will be playing host to a compass of scholars and seasoned film makers in the indigenous language genre as they storm the capital city of Akure for this year's edition of the Festival of Indigenous African Films, which holds at Owena Motels, in Akure.
    Announcing the hosting of the festival at a press conference in Lagos, the Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer of Remdel Optimum Communications Limited, organisers of the yearly festival, Pastor, (Mrs) Biodun Ibitoye said the Ondo state government who has been supporting the hosting of the festival for some years now, is poised to use the forum to woo film makers to the state.
    Among the erudite personalities to deliver talks and head sessions at the festival is Prof. Onookome Okome, a professor of Film and English at the University of Alberta, Canada.
   Others are Otunba Sola Fosudo of the Theatre Arts Department of Lagos State University, Igwe Gab Okoye, Mrs. Joke Silva, Alhaji Abdulkareem Mohammed and Mr. Femi Odugbemi. Governor Olusegun Mimiko is expected to be Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony.
 This year's festival which runs from October 2 through 5.

Ebube Nwagbo- I might go back into Music

     Nollywood actress Ebube Nwagbo has professed her love for singing , In an interview with vanguard , she explains ;


   The music aspect of me is inside the cooler for now. I might go back to it in future. I tried my hands on music and to my surprise, it worked out . Somebody wrote the songs for me and I was surprised that the music did so well in the market.A lot of people were equally surprised that the music was a hit. I never imagined that it would be successful in the market. So yes, when I'm done with acting, I may decide to go back to music.
Ooh well ,Expect her songs coming out in the near future !!!!!!!

Tony Bennett becomes Oldest Living act to reach No. 1 on Billboard 200

      Legendary pop singer Tony Bennett achieves his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with "Duets II," making the 85-year old the oldest living act to reach No. 1. His all-star collaborations album bows in the top slot with 179,000 sold in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan.

      The 14-time Grammy Award winner's previous high on the chart came in 2006, when his first "Duets" set debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 202,000. Bennett has been charting on Billboard's charts since 1951 and notched his first hit on the Billboard 200 album tally six years later. Until today, the oldest living artist to top the Billboard 200 was Bob Dylan, whose "Together Through Life" debuted at No. 1 in 2009 when he was 67-years old.

Bennett's "Duets II" features 17 pairings with such stars as Lady Gaga,Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and the late Amy Winehouse. Last week, Bennett made news as the oldest living artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, when his duet with Winehouse, "Body and Soul," debuted at No. 87.

Evangelist Ebenezer Obey's wife laid to rest

     Juliana Obey fabiyi ,the wife of Juju Musician turned Gospel artiste and Evangelist , Ebenezer obey fabiyi  has been laid to rest today . 
        She was laid to rest today at the husband's compound in GRA, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital after a funeral service at the Bishop's Court, Ibara, Abeokuta at 10.00 a.m.Activities marking the burial began on Tuesday with a commendation service at Decross Gospel Mission, Dopemu, Lagos. 
     It was followed by a Service of Songs/Praise Altar at the Bishop's Court, Onikolobo, Abeokuta yesterday.Lady Evangelist Juliana Olaide Obey-Fabiyi, 67, died in the early hours of August 23, 2011 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in Ikeja, Lagos.

Second annual raggae carnival holds at National stadium

        Lagos state Ministry of Tourism and The Association of Voice Over Artistes (AVOA) are set to hold the second annual raggae carnival . The carnival which is tagged Nigeria Unite  brings all ragae and hiphop artistes together and  will hold tommorow 1st of october at the National stadium. 
    The chairman of the Association ,Kelly Adams said the carnival will be  a platform for raggae artistes to reach out to people and gain more recognition.
Artistes billed to perform are King wadada, Jaff extra, Ruff man ,the queen and many more.

American gospel singer Ron Kenoly comes to Nigeria for Night of Splendour

     Few months after his last visit to Nigerians at the  Festival of Praise,  gospel star, Ron Kenoly returns today to dazzle at the Nite of Splendour.
     Put together by Bishop Isaac Idalosa-led Illumination Assembly (God First Ministries), it is expected to attract dignitaries from within and outside our shores.Aside the US-based Kenoly, who's  also a preacher with many hit albums to his credit, several popular gospel artistes from Nigeria will be part of the gospel groove.
    "Nite of Splendour, is a quarterly praise, power and prayer event designed for lovers of elevated praise and worship. The theme of this edition is: "There shall be no loss!"

Reggae pioneer Leonard Dillon dies of cancer in Jamaica

     The leader of the pioneering reggae group The Ethiopians has died in Jamaica. Leonard dillion  was 68.
   Daughter patrice dillion  says her father died Wednesday at her home of lung and prostate cancer.She says Dillon had been diagnosed with cancer in June and underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor earlier this year.
   Leonard Dillon began his career using the stage name jack sparrow in the early 1960s. He recorded a series of ska songs, including "Bull Whip," which featured a young bob marley on backing vocals.
     Dillon later formed The Ethiopians, a trio whose best known hits were "Train to Skaville" and "Everything Crash."Dillon is survived by seven children.

Rapper T.I. to be released from halfway house today

    Rapper T.I is set to be released from an Atlanta halfway house after spending about 10 months in federal prison on a probation violation.
   T.I., whose real name is clifford harris was arrested in September 2010 in Los Angeles on drug charges. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating the terms of the probation he received after he was convicted of federal firearms charges.
    He was released from an Arkansas prison and sent to the halfway house on Aug. 31, put back in federal lock-up over a dispute with prison officials, and then returned to the halfway house Sept. 15.

    Comedian MC Abbey showed the stuff he was made of on Tuesday, September 27 at the media launch of The Moment Newspapers at the Sheraton and even the most stiff of CEO had to laugh.Obliging us a chat after the show, the comedian reveal that he had something new under his sleeve.Abbey crafting an event.At the moment he is keeping the details close to his chest but he definitely has an event on his mind (or two or three).
That is to say that it might turn out to be a series of events.
     Nonetheless, Abbey would anchoring the upcoming 'The Experience' gospel music concert which he has remained steadfast with for the past few years.

Seye Kehinde confirmed as speaker for 'Below 45' Conference

        If you are wondering what else Seye Kehinde, the publisher of City People gets up to; other than spilling the beans on the folks we all like to read about.
  Well here is a hint. Mr Seye Kehinde who is also publisher of other publications would be taking a big part in a mentoring programme in a few days.
 
     The native of Ogun state and graduate of the University of Ife who started his writing career while in the university (writing articles for Guardian and Tribune Newspapers and for Herald newspaper during his NYSC) became a publisher at the age of 31 and has made quite a name for himself; bagging awards in the process.
   Kehinde has been confirmed as a speaker for the 'Below 45' conference which would be holding on the 3rd of October at the Blue Pearl Hall on Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos.


      The conference is tagged 'Shut Up, Start Up' and he would be joined by Deolu Akinyemi CEO of Generic Solutions, Steve Harris CEO Edgejucation, Gbenga Sesan CEO Paradigm Initiative and Olatunde Samson CEO Business Impact.
   The conference is named as a networking platform as well as a forum to develop skills in Business, Finance, Branding, Leadership, Communication and Marketing. It called 'Below 45' because it targets young all the way up to 45; the general productive years.

Nigerian Idol season II launches

    The season II of Nigerian Idol has been officially launched after a successful season I which produced Nigerian Idol, Yeka Onka.

    Season II is produced by the Optima Media Group (OMG) and Rapid blue format. It continues to enjoy the sponsorship of Etisalat, in association with Sony and Pepsi.We are committed to ennsuring that the standards from the past show are surpassed this time around. This is idol-it is the real deal," he said.
New host, singer Tiwa Savage and VJ Ill Rhymz would anchor the show.
     The season kicks off on October 7, with auditions in four cities-Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Lagos. The show begins airing on December 4, and the grand gala would be on April 1, 2012.
   The winner of the show takes home prizes valued at USD 100,000 in management contract, recording contract and prize money. The first runner up gets N1.5m, the second runner up will receive N1m. Finalists from 4th to 10th place also receive each N100,000 and a galaxy tab, blackberry and ipod for each place.
