Governor Mimiko hosts Film Makers and Scholars Posted: 30 Sep 2011 10:35 PM PDT Gov.Mimiko Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State will be playing host to a compass of scholars and seasoned film makers in the indigenous language genre as they storm the capital city of Akure for this year's edition of the Festival of Indigenous African Films, which holds at Owena Motels, in Akure. Announcing the hosting of the festival at a press conference in Lagos, the Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer of Remdel Optimum Communications Limited, organisers of the yearly festival, Pastor, (Mrs) Biodun Ibitoye said the Ondo state government who has been supporting the hosting of the festival for some years now, is poised to use the forum to woo film makers to the state. Among the erudite personalities to deliver talks and head sessions at the festival is Prof. Onookome Okome, a professor of Film and English at the University of Alberta, Canada. Others are Otunba Sola Fosudo of the Theatre Arts Department of Lagos State University, Igwe Gab Okoye, Mrs. Joke Silva, Alhaji Abdulkareem Mohammed and Mr. Femi Odugbemi. Governor Olusegun Mimiko is expected to be Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony. This year's festival which runs from October 2 through 5. |

I tried my hands on music and to my surprise, it worked out . Somebody wrote the songs for me and I was surprised that the music did so well in the market.A lot of people were equally surprised that the music was a hit. I never imagined that it would be successful in the market. So yes, when I'm done with acting, I may decide to go back to music.Ooh well ,Expect her songs coming out in the near future !!!!!!! |
Tony Bennett becomes Oldest Living act to reach No. 1 on Billboard 200 Posted: 30 Sep 2011 11:55 AM PDT Legendary pop singer Tony Bennett achieves his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with "Duets II," making the 85-year old the oldest living act to reach No. 1. His all-star collaborations album bows in the top slot with 179,000 sold in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 14-time Grammy Award winner's previous high on the chart came in 2006, when his first "Duets" set debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 202,000. Bennett has been charting on Billboard's charts since 1951 and notched his first hit on the Billboard 200 album tally six years later. Until today, the oldest living artist to top the Billboard 200 was Bob Dylan, whose "Together Through Life" debuted at No. 1 in 2009 when he was 67-years old. Bennett's "Duets II" features 17 pairings with such stars as Lady Gaga,Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and the late Amy Winehouse. Last week, Bennett made news as the oldest living artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, when his duet with Winehouse, "Body and Soul," debuted at No. 87. |

It was followed by a Service of Songs/Praise Altar at the Bishop's Court, Onikolobo, Abeokuta yesterday.Lady Evangelist Juliana Olaide Obey-Fabiyi, 67, died in the early hours of August 23, 2011 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in Ikeja, Lagos. |
