Beyonce's pregnancy announcement causes sales rise of '4' Posted: 01 Sep 2011 11:38 AM PDT The singer chose her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) to announce that she is pregnant, telling the crowd during her performance of 'Love On Top': "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me", confirming the pregnancy rumours that have swirled in recent months. According to Billboard, sales of '4' have increased by 40 per cent since the VMAs, with the record looking as if it will ultimately sell over 40,000 in this week alone. Lil Wayne meanwhile is likely to comfortably reach the top of the US charts, with his new album 'Tha Carter IV' predicted to sell 900,000 in its first week onsale |
Alicia Keys Meets African Youth in MTV Base meets with MTN Posted: 01 Sep 2011 09:36 AM PDT The R&B legend met up with 6 young Africans and MTV Base VJ Sizwe Dhlomo in New York City in August 2011 for a far-reaching discussion that touched on female empowerment, HIV and AIDS, motherhood, family, music, the importance of education and Keys' difficult early life growing up among prostitution and drug abuse. Among the panellists who lined up to meet with Alicia Keys were Zambian entrepreneur Alton Ford who won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to meet his heroine in New York City after participating in a pan-African MTV Base Meets…With MTN contest. Other panellists featuring in the episode include South African dancer Yoliswa Cele Luthuli, Zimbabwean model and blogger Makho Ndlovu, Rwandan singer-songwriter Iyadede and South African stylist Gugulethu Banda. Inspirational musician Alicia Keys has sold more than 35 million albums, notching up two number one singles and 4 US number one albums. T.I freed from prison,moved to halfway house Posted: 01 Sep 2011 04:48 AM PDT T.I arives at halfway house After his attorney denied the initial reports, T.I. has been officially released from an Arkansas prison early Wednesday morning (Aug. 31). The Atlanta rapper will now serve the rest of his sentence at a halfway in an undisclosed location. The 'Whatever You Like' rapper issued a statement by way of his Twitter account this morning. "Feels great to be back where I belong … back in the arms of those who need me the most, he tweeted. "The storm is over & da sun back out. IT'S OUR TIME TO SHINE SHAWTY!!!!! Welcome to the beginning of our Happy Ending!!!!" T.I. served just short of an 11-month sentence for violating his probation stemming from a Sept. 1 arrest for possession of a controlled substance. He entered the Forrest City Federal Prison facility in Arkansas on Nov. 1. |
