Boxing Legend 'Muhammad Ali' Turns 70

Posted: 17 Jan 2012 12:44 AM PST

The world's greatest living boxer turns 70 years old today. Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., Jan. 17, 1942.
Nicknamed "The Greatest," Ali was involved in several historic boxing matches. Notable among these were three with rival Joe Frazier, which are considered among the greatest in boxing history, and one with George Foreman, where he finally regained his stripped titles seven years later.
Ali was well known for his unorthodox fighting style, which he described as "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee", and employing techniques such as the Ali Shuffle and the rope-a-dope.
The larger-than-life boxer is a physical shadow of his former self. Ali is suffering from Parkinson's disease, likely brought on by this boxing career. He was rushed to hospital recently .
Ali retired in 1981, it was the end of an era for boxing's golden age
