In a statement released on Yvonne chaka chaka's website, She said :
I am truly honoured to be the first African woman to receive this award, especially since South Africa's champion for freedom and justice, Nelson Mandela, graced these halls with his presence twenty years ago.

Growing up in South Africa during apartheid, I lived with inequality in all aspects of my life. My experiences as a child taught me that giving people their dignity is vital to building kinder, fairer societies which are not only possible but critical to creating a safe and secure world.
I have long believed that songs that promote understanding speak much louder than the bullet shots I heard growing up in Soweto.
In recent years, my fight against injustice has become global. Working as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and the Roll Back Malaria Partnership and MDG Envoy for Africa, I have seen that there is a global apartheid in accessing health services.       Growing up in South Africa during apartheid, I lived with inequality in all aspects of my life. Posted: 27 Jan 2012 11:34 PM PST

Micheal Jackson's Doctor ,conrad Murray has filed a legal document asking a judge to free him from jail .
The doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death asked a judge Friday to release him from jail pending his appeal.Dr. Conrad Murray, who is serving a four-year jail sentence, said in a declaration that he should be released either on his own recognizance or on bail with electronic monitoring.
He said he is not a danger to society, will not flee the area, and wants to work to help support his seven children. His lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan, said in the motion that Murray knows he cannot work as a doctor but would find other employment. He suggested the sentence and Murray's mode of confinement is extremely severe for a man with no prior criminal record.

He said Murray is being held in solitary confinement and is chained to a table when he meets with his lawyers. He also said Murray is extremely sorrowful about Jackson's death.
A hearing on the motion was set for Feb. 24.Jackson died in June 2009 from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol, administered by Murray.
