It pays to protect your own reputation and your money before there is actually a problem.

If you cannot trust your partners in business you may already be in trouble. After all, your business partners, will be handling money and other important business matters related to your company. It is very important that you know that they will come through on a project that the company has, and they are not just blowing smoke. If they are dishonest in any way, it could put the entire project, and possibly the company at stake. When the company is compromised, you are compromised as well. It can be an extremely sticky situation to say the least.

Have you also considered running a credit check on your potential business partner? Though just because you have less than stellar credit does not make you a bad business partner, but it would sure help if you knew their financial status. You may be surprised on what shows up on that report.

A very good example, and one that comes up often, is where a person has been convicted of drunk driving. Would you want to do business with someone who was convicted of driving drunk? This kind of activity always shows up on a criminal background check. You just need to be sure that you are looking in the proper county however, the record could easily escape you if they have lived somewhere else. You'll want to be aware of any kind of information that may be leaked to the public and result in an embarassment to you and your company.

Be sure you get all the current and past addresses of the person you are considering doing business with. There is a possibilityt that if they have lived in other parts of the country that they could have committed a crime and it would bypass your radar.
