MCSN appoints Yinka davies,Ope Banwo as directors

     As part of the restructuring and repositioning to strengthen its operation and hold in the intellectual property protection business, the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN has reinforced its board with new members in order to serve its members well.
The appointments, which were seen as a move to fill certain vacancies in the board of the Society, were also aimed at making the board more representative of the various interests existing within the organization.
At its meeting held in August 2011, MCSN announced the appointments of Ms. Yinka Davies, Mr. Ope Banwo and Mr. Solomon Arueya as directors and members of Council of the Society.
Yinka Davies is  a classical music songwriter and performer is seen as an activist who has championed MCSN's causes at various fora including high level representation before the Federal Government.
Mr.OpeBanwo who is the founder and Chief Executive of Stingomania Group is a versatile music/film businessman with many artistes who are already members of MCSN on his publishing and recording platforms. He also has very wide international exposure in music and intellectual property business. Being a lawyer, he is expected to assist the management in dealing with series of inter-personal legal issues in which members of the society may be involved vis-à-vis the organization at large.
    Mr. Solomon Arueya is the owner of Westside Music Inc., a music publishing outfit with deep interests in artists' development and promotions.
  All the new directors have written to formally accept and thanked the management of the society for the appointments and promised to contribute their quota to ensure and maintain the position of MCSN as the numero uno(the leading) copyright society in Nigeria and one of the best in the world.

     The second son of lady of songs, Late christy Essien Igbokwe, Chinwuba 'Kaka' Igbokwe is getting married today 8th of october ,2011.
 The wedding will taking place  today at the Arch Bishop Vinning Memorial Church, Ikeja Lagos.
    Kaka, a rap artist following in the steps of his late and who spoke to  vanguard  writer with mixed feelings disclosed that "My mum chose our wedding date four days before her demise. She told me the September date I chose was not good as certain events may not allow us to follow our dream. It was as if she was predicting her death and the events that would follow her burial."

Benin, Owerri standstill for MTN Power of 10 concert

   Dr Sid, Ikechukwu, Waconzy, Dr Sid, Chidinma, Mike, Raskimono, 9ice, Free Windz and Flavor were star performers in Benin and Owerri last weekend.
All thanks to MTN Power of 10 concerts!
The Power of 10 performance train started in Makurdi on September 9, and has since been to cities like Enugu, Calabar, Abuja, Ilorin and Port Harcourt.
Cultural Centre Benin and Aladinma Shopping Complex Owerri played host to the artistes, as fans came out in thousands to see some of their favorite acts sing to them all night long. Seyi Law was the host for the night!
The train moves to its final destination- Ibadan (Friday October 7, 2011) and Lagos (October 14, 2011) next week!

    The Nobel Peace Prize 2011 was awarded jointly to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman .
   The Norwegian Nobel Committee honored the three women "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work.""I am very very happy about this prize," said Karman, a 32-year-old mother of three who heads the human rights group Women Journalists without Chains.
   She has been a leading figure in organizing protests President Ali Abdullah Saleh that kicked off in late January as part of a wave of anti-authoritarian revolts that have convulsed the Arab world."I give the prize to the youth of revolution in Yemen and the Yemeni people," Karman told The Associated Press.
       Elen Johnson Sirleaf, 72, is a Harvard-trained economist who became Africa's first democratically elected female president in 2005.She faces a presidential poll this month.She was seen as a reformer and peacemaker in Liberia when she took office. 

President Obama appoints singer Shakira to Education advisory panel

     Columbian singer /songwriter  shakira has been appointed by president barack obama to his Advisory commision on Educational excellence for Hispanics, along with a a series of Democrat-affiliated advocates and boosters.Shakira got  her slot on the educational commission in part because president obama is ramping up his outreach to Hispanics by promoting Hispanic celebrities. 
    Shakira's appointment follows Obama's recent description of another diva, Lady Gaga, as a leader of the gay and lesbian communities.
    Shakira is also involved with educational issues in her homeland through her Barefoot Foundation, and has worked to ensure students in Haiti and South Africa have access to nutritious meals as well as educational and psychological support services.

Michelle Obama to Break Guinness World Record

     Michelle Obama Trying To Break Guinness World Record.  The First Lady of the United States is using her platform once again to inspire people to  lead healthier lifestyles. Michelle Obama, 47, will attempt to break the record for 'Most People Doing Jumping Jacks In A 24-Hour Period."
     In order  to break the record, Obama is inviting hundreds of local school children to the South Lawn Tuesday oct.11 where they'll be monitored by an official from Guinness World Records who signal the beginning of a 24-hour challenge.
  The current record is 20,425 jumpers.
     In order to break the record, Michelle must get over 20,000 people to do jumping jacks for at least one minute.
