Onyeka Onwenu to Tony Okoroji; Return Christy Igbokwe's N3M burial funds

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 09:34 PM PDT

Legendary Musician ,Onyeka Onwenu is calling out  Copyright society of Nigeria (COSON) boss Tony Okoroji  to return  N3Million cross river state government donated for Christy Essien Igbokwe's burial
In a letter sent to Tony Okoroji, and made available to Vanguard ,  Onyeka is compelling Okoroji to step forward and clear the air by simply accounting for the whereabouts of the said money.

Dear Tony Okoroji: "I write this letter with a pained heart, one full of disappointment at the news that you pocketed the N3 million donation made by the Cross River State Government to the Christy Essien Burial Committee for use towards her burial programme.
'I understand that you took this decision because you claimed you were owed certain amounts for "unauthorised" expenditures made by you during the burial week. Unauthorised, because you did whatever you wanted and undertook actions against the decisions of the committee as a whole.
Actions such as the making of a documentary and the commissioning of satellite musical stampedes in other States. You headed sub-committees assigned to you but handled everything to the exclusion of other members and then you took over other sub-committees and insisted on imposing yourself on everyone else.
"I know you like to say that others were not up to doing the work but that is a misinformation that suits your imagination. How could they when you wouldn't let them. How many meetings did you have with members of your subcommittees?
Protecting reputationsHow many remedial meetings were called by the committee to redress some of your mistakes did you respect? You took delight in presenting us with a fait accompli, in setting programmes for events that were even outside your purview and jurisdiction. You even dared to impose pre-printed programmes that went against the committees decision."
"We tolerated all these just so we can protect the integrity of the burial programme and protect all our reputations. You believed your own hype and thought that you were smarter and more cunning than anyone else. Did you not inform us that you made that substandard documentary on Christy with your own money, therefore, we had no right to complain.
Yet you have now turned around to charge the committee for it.  Let me note here that you used COSON staff, paid by copyright owners, something you have done, consistently over the period of your chairmanship and which you know or should know is patently wrong.
"You also said that the MCs you brought in for the tribute night at the NiteShift, against the committee's decision had offered their services free of charge.
But now you are charging for their services. During our last committee meeting and in response to my objection to your "one man, devil may care" decision taking, your inability to be a team player and total lack of regard for the people you are supposed to work with, you accused me of having the capability of sending hired assassins after you.
What a reckless thing to say and how irresponsible are you. I decided to ignore you but on a second thought,  you had projected onto me something that you were considering doing yourself. I have taken note of it.
"I would have been very happy to see you prove me wrong by doing the right thing. But what did you do, you confirmed our worst fears by taking money which did not belong to you. My dear brother, Tony, I wish that you would have a rethink and return the money.
It is blood money and would do you no good. You make us wonder if the reason you were part of Christy's Burial Committee was to help give a befitting burial rites or to rip it off. You have an opportunity to prove your innocence.
"I understand that the first thing you said at the first committee meeting was that there must be no financial impropriety and now, you have eaten what you vomited. If indeed you are being owed, why not let the committee decide. What are you afraid of. It is not too late, you can still do the right thing. God bless you as you do so."

MTV to bring African Music and other cultures to US with 'Iggy

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 09:29 AM PDT

MTV  new program, "The MTV Iggy Show," and its new Iggy branding,  is plannining  to  bring African music and other cultures to US
"The MTV Iggy Show" will debut Monday on all of its networks, including MTV2 and MTV, as well as on its website. The half-hour weekly show will include videos and dispatches from around the globe. In addition, a new website, MTVIggy.com, includes videos, performances and other content from worldwide artists. MTV also plans to promote its Iggy brand through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
"Our audiences are discovering music now because of digital technology and social music. They're connecting from artists from faraway places. Frankly, we think that America could benefit from understanding the world a little bit better, and music is one of those windows. So what MTV Iggy does is provide America with a window to view global pop culture through," Nusrat Durrani ,MTV World's vice president said.
While Iggy content will feature bands from Africa, Korea, Pakistan and other countries where English is not the native language, Durrani said that shouldn't prevent American audiences from connecting.
"When Lady Gaga performed in China ... not every Chinese kid understands English. They respond to the imagery and to the whole sort of package that Lady Gaga represents, for example. I think the reverse can also be true," he said, noting that a recent Iggy taping in New York attracted an audience of about 3,000 for a Korean act.
"We need to be a little bit more open, frankly. Why should we expect the world to always respond on our terms?" he said.
MTV is kicking off its Iggy brand with a contest that will crown the "best new band in the world" on Nov. 10.
MTV iggy has featured Nigerian soul  singer NNeka as one of the best 12 female emcees dominating Mic everywhere

Julius Agwu Returns With Laff 4 Christ Sake

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 02:16 AM PDT

One of Nigeria's most gifted comedians, Julius Agwu is bringing back one of his popular comedy brands, Laff 4 Christ Sake, an evening of gospel rhythms and jokes.
The popular show which started in 1994 but rested after its sixth edition in 2009 will take place at the Muson Center on October 23. Anointed comic acts to participate in the big comedy show are Basketmouth, Bovi, Gordons, Buchi, Dan D'Humorous, Senator and Funny Bone while the music stars penciled down for the show are KSB, Frank Edwards, Eben, Onos and Tim Godfrey. DJ Gosporella will be on the wheels of steel.

According to Julius Agwu, the show will go down in history as one of the best comedy shows ever organized for the Christian brothers and sisters. "Laff 4 Christ Sake is no doubt a popular comedy brand in the Christendom. The show couldn't hold last year because it coincided with the London edition of Crack Ya Ribs. From the line up of the comedians and artistes for this year's edition, one wouldn't need a seer to tell him or her that the show will be out of this world. We are doing everything possible to make the show the most successful Laff 4 For Christ Sake ever because this will mark the seventh edition. As a matter of fact, there are some surprises I don't want to let out now until the day of the show".

The last edition of the gospel comedy show held on Sunday August 16th, 2009 at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos and it featured performances from Midnight Crew, Atorise, Mike Aremu, Ali Baba, Gordons, Koffi, Owen Gee and many others.

Julius Agwu is a known name when it comes to humour business in Nigeria. The success of his recently concluded Crack Ya Ribs show in London still dominates major discourse in the entertainment industry. The comedian is not resting on his oars as he is getting ready for the seventh edition of Laff 4 For Christ Sake, an evening of gospel rhythms and jokes.

I'll do it a lot faster I said five years because that's (the norm) when I create a business plan, but I think I can do it in half that time."
