Anti-Rape Group Attacks Rihanna Over “We Found Love” Video Posted: 27 Oct 2011 10:44 PM PDT Rihanna and Dudley in we found love video Rihanna has been targeted by anti-rape campaigners over concerns she is portrayed as "an object to be possessed by men" in her controversial new "We Found Love" music video. Rihanna's gritty promo sees the R&B star fight with her lover in a scene echoing her notorious 2009 bust-up with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. In the clip, Rihanna's rumored real-life beau Dudley O'Shaughnessy spanks her and tattoos the word "mine" on her backside. An anti-rape group in Britain is fuming over Rihanna's latest release, branding the video a "disgrace" and questioning the message it sends to impressionable fans. Eileen Kelly of the Rape Crisis Centre tells Britain's Daily Star, "Rihanna's new video is a disgrace. It sends the message that she is an object to be possessed by men, which is disturbingly what we see in real violence cases." However, the director of the video, Melina Matsoukas, defended her work, saying: "In the end, it's not really at all about domestic violence. It's really just about it being toxic… It's not trying to glorify that type of relationship. The bad parts of it, that's what you don't want. In the end, her leaving, it represents her getting that out of her life." |

Ryan Leslie Sued For Not Giving 1 Million Dollar reward as Promised Posted: 27 Oct 2011 12:35 PM PDT Ryan Leslie had his laptop stolen during a tour through Cologne, Germany back in October 2010, and immediately offered a $20,000 reward for whoever found it. After no one had returned the laptop, Ryan then raised it to a whopping $1 million. The bag containing his computer and other equipment was found in a park, but Ryan Leslie is not paying the good citizen his reward money. After many tweets and interviews explaining the importance of the bag which contained a valuable library of beats and tracks he recorded, many were on the look to find the million dollar bag. However, the R&B crooner has yet to pay up the promised million after an upstanding citizen found his computer. Armin Augstein found the bag with the laptop a month after it went missing while he was walking his dog in a park. A 52-year-old German man who recovered the laptop is suing Ryan Leslie for the $1 million fee plus interest, according to the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. |

Court orders NDLEA to produce Baba Suwe physically as agency denies him relief funds Posted: 27 Oct 2011 07:37 AM PDT A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Wednesday, ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce star comedian and actor, Babatunde Omidina, also known as Baba Suwe physically in court at its next adjourned date of November 1, 2011. Justice Yetunde Idowu granted the order, following an application for his production in court filed by his counsel, human rights lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, before the court. Aturu also sought through an application brought pursuant Order IV Rules 3 and 4 of the Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules 2009 for the unconditional release of the comedian from NDLEA custody pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. However, the NDLEA, through its counsel, Femi Oloruntoba, opposed the application to release Baba Suwe unconditionally through a 33- paragraph counter affidavit where it is claimed that a series of medical examinations had been carried out since the day Baba Suwe was arrested on October 12, 2011. NDLEA added that the examination results revealed that the applicant had a large amount of drug in his stomach, adding that Baba Suwe was bound eventually to excrete the substance from his abdomen. The agency added that it is not opposed to producing the applicant in court but was concerned that crowd control would be a problem but the judge told him that the court security would control any crowd and there would not be a problem "We are not opposing the application. The applicant is in good condition. We urge the court to make such consequential order as to avoid a breach of peace," Femi oloruntoba said.NDLEA also said Omidina's arrest and detention were within the purview of the law and the Constitution, so he does not deserve the N100 million compensation and apology he is asking for.He is not entitled to any of the reliefs claimed, including the sum of N100,000,000.00 damages." Lady Gaga to perform at Grammy Awards nominations show next month Posted: 27 Oct 2011 05:08 AM PDT Lady Gaga is to perform at next month's Grammy Award nominations show at LA's Nokia Theatre. The US singer, who is also a possible contender for a prize, will sing live on stage on Wednesday 30 November. Only a handful of the 78 categories will be announced at the event. The Grammys take place in Los Angeles on Sunday 12 February and will again be hosted by LL Cool J, who fronted the show at the Staples Centre earlier this year. The American Recording Academy has reduced the number of categories at next year's Grammys from 109 to 78. Top awards, such as best album, remain. While separate male and female vocal categories in fields like pop, R&B and country will now compete against each other. Also, if a category attracts fewer than 25 entries, it will be removed that year and ditched completely if that happens for three years in a row. Country trio Lady Antebellum won five awards at this year's Grammy Awards. Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and John Legend all won three prizes. |
