| Boxing legends Mike Tyson, Mohammed Alli,Larry holmes attend Joe frazier's funeral Posted: 15 Nov 2011 10:19 AM PST  Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali turned out to pay their respects to former world heavyweight champion Joe Frazier at his funeral on Monday.Friends and family bid farewell to Frazier, who lost his fight with liver cancer last week, at the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia.Civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson also attended the service, and he gave a moving tribute to Frazier.
Jackson also called for city officials to honour the late boxer with a statue, similar to the one of film fighter Rocky, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, which stands outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art. "Rocky is an imaginary figure who never existed," Jackson said. "Rocky never tasted his own blood. Rocky never faced Ken Norton. He never faced Ali. He never faced Larry Holmes. Frazier became the first man to beat Ali as a professional when he knocked him down in a 1971 match, which was known as the Fight of the Century.

| Nigeria football federation honours Joseph Yobo Posted: 15 Nov 2011 03:45 AM PST  Joseph Yobo will receive an all-glass plaque from NFF President Aminu Maigari for his record-equalling feat, as his appearance on Tuesday in the international friendly match against the Chipolopolo will be his 86th for the Senior National Team of Nigeria, matching the previous achievement of Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal and Kanu nwankwo "We have deep respect for Joseph Yobo's outstanding contributions to Nigeria football, his patriotism and his humility", NFF President Aminu Maigari said in Abuja. Tuesday's international friendly against Zambia means so much to Yobo, who will not only equal the previous record but will also now look to breaking it in his very next appearance for the Super Eagles. The opposition is also, coincidentally, Zambia, against which Yobo made his first senior team appearance in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Chingola on March 24, 2001. The NFF also honoured Yobo in the month of March when he marked his 10th year on the road for the Nigeria senior team, in the Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia. Tuesday's match against the Chipolopolo will kick off at 5pm at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.  | ||||||||
