The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn breaks $500 million mark at worldwide box Posted: 29 Nov 2011 10:05 PM PST The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" broke the $500 million mark at worldwide box offices on Monday after its release only 12 days ago, film distributor Summit Entertainment said on Tuesday. "Breaking Dawn", the fourth installment in the vampire romance franchise based on the "Twilight" novels by Stephanie Meyer, generated has generated $508 million worldwide, of which $223 million came from U.S. box offices, after record ticket sales over the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend. "We couldn't be more pleased with the success of this film and a franchise that the fans have continued to support over the past several years," Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairmen of Summit Entertainment, said in a statement. The success of "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" comes after the first three films in the "Twilight Saga" series collectively earned more than $1.8 billion at the worldwide box offices. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, the fourth film sees young lovers Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen finally unite in marriage and embark on their highly anticipated honeymoon, before their wedded bliss is cut short by an unexpected life-threatening pregnancy. The second part of the film, which will be the conclusion of the "Twilight Saga," is due for release in 2012. | ||
Stand-up comedian Patrice O'Neal dies at 41 after suffering stroke Posted: 29 Nov 2011 09:57 PM PST Stand-up comedian Patrice O'Neal died on Tuesday at the age of 41 following a stroke last month, his agent said." It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O'Neal has passed away this morning due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19," O'Neal's agent Matt Frost said in a statement. "Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius," Frost added. O'Neal, who appeared on Comedy Central celebrity roasts and on Conan O'Brien's and David Letterman's late night TV shows, was also a frequent guest on the "Opie & Anthony" radio show on Sirius XM. "Yes it's true that our pal Patrice O'Neal has passed away. The funniest and best thinker I've known. PERIOD," the Sirius XM hosts said in a Twitter message.The "Opie & Anthony" show also broke news last month that the stand-up comic, who was diabetic, had suffered a stroke last month.Frost said O'Neal's mother Georgia was at his side when he died. Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray sentenced to 4 years in prison Posted: 29 Nov 2011 10:10 AM PST Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison today and denied probation for involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death. Judge Michael Pastor called Murray's treatment of Jackson a "cycle of horrible medicine" and "medicine madness." Jackson's parents and siblings Jermaine, LaToya and Randy were present at today's sentencing, but did not speak, instead allowing family friend and attorney Brian Panish to read a statement on behalf of the Jackson's three children and family. In the statement, Michael Jackson's children told the Los Angeles court that they lost their "father, best friend, and playmate" when the singer died, but stressed they were not seeking "revenge".

Forbes magazine's readers gave Mr Sanusi the most votes in an online poll . He beat Mrs Sirleaf, the Liberian president who was awarded this year's Nobel Peace prize, Mr Dangote, a Nigeria business tycoon who tops Forbes' list of Africa's richest people, former Cape Verde President Pedro Verona Pires, who won this year's $5m (£3.2m) Mo Ibrahim prize for good governance in Africa and Wangari Maathai, the Kenyan Nobel Peace laureate who died in September. Jay Search is a bi-annual music talent search dedicated to the memory of late Jaiye Aboderin (1971-2004), who died December 3rd 2004 after he slumped during a casual game of basketball with friends. In a statement by Olorogun Oskar Ibru on behalf of the Ibru family, the funeral events will hold in Lagos State and Delta State.The events will begin with a Service of Songs on Wednesday, December 14, in Lagos. This will be followed on Thursday by a Commen-dation Service. Events in Lagos will be rounded off on same day with a lying-in-state at Rutam House, headquarters of Guardian Newspapers Limited, from where the body will depart for the airport en-route Agbarha-Otor in Delta State. Gov.Uduaghan to give ailing veteran actor Enebeli Elebuwa N3Million Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:35 AM PST susan peters with enebeli elebuwa at the hospital Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has pledged the sum of N3million to support veteran actor, Enebeli Elebuwa, who has been down with stroke for the past two months. National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Segun Arinze, confirmed the development to PM News adding that popular actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, who is also the Commissioner for Tourism in Delta State, has donated N200,000 for the welfare of the ailing Elebuwa. It was gathered that t the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, after reading a report about the ailing Elebuwa last week, also sent a medical team to take care of the actor. "On behalf of AGN, we thank Governors Uduaghan and Fashola, RMD and well spirited Nigerians who have been sending goodwill messages," Arinze said. Actor enebeli Elebuwa, who cannot walk right now has been moved to St. Tropez Hospital, Surulere, Lagos where he is currently receiving treatment. |
