Steve Jobs' book tops bestseller lists in first week

      Walter Isaacson's biography of Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs leapt to the top of bestseller lists in its first week in book stores, flying off shelves to the tune of 379,000 copies, according to Nielsen's BookScan.

"Steve Jobs," which came out on October 24 from publisher Simon & Schuster, sold three times more copies than the next-bestselling book, John Grisham's "The Litigators."

In its first week alone the book became one of the year's 20 bestsellers.

It has been a year since any book has sold more copies in its first week. Both former President George W. Bush's autobiography, "Decision Points," and Jeff Kinney's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth," sold more than 400,000 copies in their first week last November.

  Jobs died on October 5 of pancreatic cancer, age 56. The publication of Isaacson' book, which was written with Jobs' cooperation, was moved up from the original 2012 date.

The upcoming musical concert Top 10 MICS, from the stable of entertainment giant, KOGA, keeps grabbing the headlines on social networking platforms daily as the online competition to determine the five artistes that will eventually perform alongside the five artistes previously unveiled by KOGA draws to a close this week.
The African Queen crooner, Tuface Idibia, Mr incredible, M.I Abaga, Trybesmen chief executive, Eldee tha don, the Afro Juju creator, Sir Shina Peters and the paramount King of Fuji, Abass Akande Obesere are names previously unveiled by KOGA and will be performing live on stage.
The online competition requires music lovers to predict correctly the remaining five artistes that will join the above five on stage come December 23 at TBS, Lagos. Several mouthwatering prizes like sleek black berry phones, mini laptops, television sets,T-shirts from the award winning clothing line, Shakara clothing are some of the prizes put up for grab.

 Kelekele crooner, Tiwa Savage, Akpako master, Terry Gee, Oleku exponent, Ice Prince Zamani, the lady of soul music, Omawunmi, love diva, Waje, Terry tha rap man, Noni boy, Samklef, Brymo and Sauce Kid top many people's predictions on twitter and short sms code. Other names that feature frequently in the gale of prediction are D'banj, Psquare, Wande Coal, Whizkid and many others.
The identities of the remaining five will be unveiled by the organizers at the World Press Conference slated for next week.
Expectations are high as the organizers who claim to have signed top ten acts for the event that many as dubbed 'event of the year for the people and by the people' said they are still keeping the names under wrap. 'The competition ends this week and we have many predictions have been made, we shall wait till next week at the world press conference to reveal the winners and the host'. 
According to the PR agency, Bigsam Media, the world press conference will have the 10 acts in attendance and major industry stakeholders. 'This is an industry event as far as we are concern. It is an event by the people and for the masses. We are striving to bring back live concert and entertainment at a price generality of the people can afford'.
The musical concert which is a first of its kind since the days of Lekki sun splash will hold on the 23rd December. Speaking on the event, the head of operations at KOGA, Elsie Oluku stressed that ''KOGA is presenting a medium that will bring together the young and the old. Our selection of artistes shows that we intend taking this to a whole new level and we don't intend settling for anything less''.

  For some time now, the face of Nollywood screen diva Stella Damasus has been missing in Nollywood flicks produced of recent, and this development has kept many in the dark as to the where about of their screen idol especially her fans.
After a long time off movie set, delectable actress Stella Damasus finally reappears in the movie "Two Brides and a Baby" by Blessing Egbe but as to the astonishment of her fans, Stella didn't play her usual lovey-dovey role of the sweet and loving character which she plays in most of her movie, but rather she plays the role of a bitch in the character of Ama, the bitter ex fiancée who is hell bent on extracting her pound of flesh from Bankole played by new darling of the industry, O.C Ukeje.


    The movie which features other Nollywood stars such as Kalu Ikeagwu, Blessing Egbe, Chelsea Eze , Okey Uzoeshi  is a contemporary   story about love, betray, revenge, pain, forgiveness and common relationship issues  set in present day Nigeria and the story seeks to reveal the in-depth aspects of relationship between different types of couples. While the story follows the about-to-wed couple through their misfortune and struggle to get through the tragic events of the day leading up to their marriage as a result of the arrival of the bitter ex fiancée a day to the wedding. It also spotlight on the big lie called marriage that exist between cankerous wife and a dodgy husband.
Speaking on why she choose Stella Damasus to play the role of Ama in the movie, Blessing Egbe describes  Stella as a wonderful actress, "she's a wonderful actress who is well vast in interpreting roles, she relives the character in such a way that the audience get a 'live-feel' of the character through her interpretation"
Stella Damasus is a multiple award winning Nigerian entertainer who is most notable for her work as an actress. She is considered to be one of the most popular film actresses in Nigeria and has on several occasions been involved in stage performances.
Commenting on the movie, Blessing Egbe says "the story is a sad truth which occurs every day of our lives. People get hurt; some women have even committed suicide from mere emergence of another woman in the lives of their family. This movie is treat the issue the way it should be"
Speaking on the movie, star actress, Stella says it is the kind of role real actors is born to play. 'It is the kind of role actors are born to play' she says.
The movie which is set to premier in the prestigious Genesis Deluxe Cinema on the 17th of November will afterwards start showing in all cinemas across the country as from the 25th of November. Tickets for the premier have been selling fast since its start selling from beginning of the month.
 The producer of the movie, Blessing Egbe is a theatre art graduate from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and also a graduate from the City Varsity Film College in Cape Town South Africa. An international model cum film maker who's last movie "The Rival" won the Best International Drama at the New York International Film and Video Festival in 2007. She recently won the 2011 city people's best script writer of the year as well.
The movie, Two Brides and a Baby last month bagged 12 nominations from Best of Nollywood Awards.

Nollywood Actress Bimbo Akinsanya On Trial For Murder Attempt

     Popular Yoruba movie star, Bimbo Akinsanya, has been arrested and arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate's Court over alleged conspiracy to murder Rev. Pat Ogechi Dennah.Bimbo and others now at large, were alleged to have on 28 October 2011 at 20, Samuel Street, Akowonjo, Egbeda, a suburb of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, conspired to commit felony by wounding Rev. Dennah.
The police prosecutor, Barth Nwokedi in the two-count charge brought against the defendant, alleged that Bimbo pointed Rev. Dennah to a yet to be identified boy to kill her.
He added that the boy, who is now at large, shot at Rev. Dennah but only wounded her on her left shoulder.
The alleged offence allegedly committed by the actress is punishable under section 338 and 516 of the criminal code, cap C17, vol 11, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
    One of the charges reads: " That you, Bimbo Akinsanya and others now at large on 28 October, 2011 at about 2030hrs at No. 20, Samuel Street, Akowonjo, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial district, did point Rev. Pat Ogechi Dennah to a boy yet to be identified, to kill her and the said boy shot her with a gun and wounded her on her left shoulder and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 338 of the criminal code cap C17 Vol. 11 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003."
When the charges were read out to Bimbo, she pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.
She was subsequently granted bail by the presiding magistrate, Mr A.O. Isaac in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must be resident in Lagos.
The matter has been adjourned till 30 November, 2011 for trial.

Nigerian Idol season II holds final auditions in Lagos - NOV. 4 - 6

        The highly anticipated last audition of Africa's biggest music reality show Nigerian Idol Season II is finally here as the audition train hits Lagos for a three day musical extravaganza. From Friday November 4 to Sunday November 6 the Dream Studios, Lagos will be playing host to the thousands of Idol hopefuls who have already registered to be part of the forthcoming auditions. The Lagos audition comes after a month long audition tour of four cities starting from Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and finally berthing in Lagos.
From musical groups in the National Theatre to Cool underground music gatherings like Taruwa and One Mic Naija, the Nigerian Idol auditions is generating buzz and excitement among music talents. According to Ese Okoduwa who trains weekly at the National theatre, "I was very excited to hear that the Lagos auditions will be holding this coming weekend. This looks like the opportunity I have been waiting and preparing for all my life."
To the organisers of the hit show, the last Lagos auditions was a spectacular show with the excited contestants giving it a carnival feel with their impromptu rehearsals. "Judging by the popularity of the show last season and the excitement and energy shown by the participants, we expect an even greater audition this time around now the stakes have been made higher," said Nigerian Idol Executive Producer, Rotimi Pedro.

Youtube Partners With Jay-Z, Madonna ,Pharrell For Exclusive Channels

 YouTube unveiled numerous high-profile names among the channel producers, including Jay-Z, Amy Madonna, Pharell williams, shaque o' neal and many other stars
   Youtube is about to strengthen its chokehold on the world with some expansion through more channels from famous folks.
Jay-Z is getting a channel as an extension of his Life + Times site while Pharrell is doing a show about creative thinkers and Shaquille O'Neal is bringing a comedy network to the net.
The initiative is expected to generate about 25 hours of new programming a day on YouTube, The Wall Street Journal reported, which noted that most of the channels will launch next year.
     In touting its plans, the site posted notice that it would be offering channels created "by well-known personalities and content producers as well as some of the most innovative up-and-coming media companies and some of YouTube' own existing partners."

Dr sid performs for the first time in Ghana

    Pop singer and Mo'hits record's artiste Dr sid will perform for the first time in Ghana on saturday , November 5 ,2011. 
     The event which is the finale edition of Miss Malaika beauty reality show will take place at the Accra international conference center.Other artistes billed to perform are Ghanaian rapper sarkordie, R2bees.
