Beware The Malevolence That Lurks In The Internet

By Albert J. Swizer

Today, it is no secret that the Internet is a fantastic place to surf and have lots of fun. Many people use the Internet for business purposes, from police stations doing forensics work to high profile executives having video conferences. If you haven't really thought about the powerful implications of the Internet, then you are really missing out on the greatest invention of the last century.

But, there is some bad news. Everything isn't so nice and pleasant. There are plenty of bad things lurking below the surface, that would happily destroy everything that you hold of value, everything that gives you pleasure in life. Just like every silver lining has a cloud, every good thing about the Internet also has an evil, dark counterpart.

I'm talking about computer viruses of course, and the many forms they come in. Some are harmful only in that they will clog up your system, and slow it down to a crawl. Others are deadly serious and will wipe your system clean of any information, potentially causing you to have to use that system recovery disc that came with your machine. This can be extremely disastrous, especially if you don't back your system up on a regular basis.

The most prevalent malicious software programs out there are called spyware and adware. While not destructive in nature, these programs can easily infect your system, and snoop through your personal data, and sell your information to the highest bidder.

Some people feel that by only visiting "safe" sites that they aren't exposing themselves to danger. The truth is that these dangerous software programs can be found almost anywhere. Everywhere you go, you are in danger of picking up a virus.

Luckily, there are plenty of affordable pieces of software that can safeguard your computer against these horrible invaders of your privacy. These programs usually run in the background, and run systematic checks that seek and destroy any and all malicious software programs that have infected your computer. If you haven't already done so, you should find and install one of these anti-virus programs today.
