Machine Knives In Industry

By Ian MacOlive

Machine knives are one of the most needed tools within the timber industry since they are very efficient in recovering any wasted material. The result of this is that there is less wast and more wood to be sold to customers. Machine Knives come in many different sizes from being about the size of a persons hand to much larger. The larger machine knives used by timber companies can process large amounts of timber in a short period of time making it into pulp.

The main types of machine knives used in the timber industry are the flaker knives; chipper knives; slabber / canter knives and veneer knives. Each of these knives that are used in the timber industry are designed to do a specific job.

Flaker knives are usually made from certain kinds of alloy so that they can reduce a piece of wood into even sized flakes. This is normally used for making different kinds of particle board.

Machine knives that have been properly manufactured and installed help the manufacturers of timber products to have a finished product that is better suited to the demands of manufacturing and lasts a longer period of time.

Chipper knives work great for recovering wasted material since the can to tree branches and other debris into smaller and usable sizes. They can be used for landscaping playgrounds and flowerbeds as well as being fule for boilers.

Usually, slabber knives will be used in conjunction with canter knives to create chips. Once the chips are made they can be used to make chip board and even mulch or pulp.

Veneer knives are used to remove long thin pieces of wood from logs that are then used to manufacture furniture to give it the appearance that the whole piece of furniture is manufactured from the top layer that is glued on. The timber that is most often used for this are hard woods with a unique pattern such as tiger oak or other striking grain pattern. Often the pattern or grain of the wood is what sells best among manufacturers, which is why it is important with these knives, that the edge is tempered well enough to keep cutting for a longer period of time without needing sharpening. When maintenance is needed on the machinery valuable time is lost from production. Clipper Knives and anvils are used in conjunction with veneer knives to produce this type of timber.

There are a number of sawmill owners and operators out there that want and need high quality machine knives to that they can keep an edge over their competition in the market. Machine knives that come from a company experience in making quality blades are your best choice when it comes to finding blades in the timber industry. They can offer machine knives that can handle many different types of jobs and needs that will surely benefit you.
