New Technology Opens Doors In Custom Engraved Dog Tags And ID Pendants

By Moelyanto Lukman Hakim

Identification of yourself and your personal objects has existed since the start of man. In some manner or another, we have a need to put our "mark" on most everything. At the start, the most simple method of engraving was simply a scratch made by whatever object would work. In recent times, we have added embossing, sublimation, laser engraving and now impact printing.

Impact printing basically involves a pin striking the base object hundreds of times per second. It very much acts like a traditional ink printer except it strikes the object with a pin at various impact strengths with regards to the "color" of the print. Put simply, the lighter the shades, the harder the impact. Since this kind of printing does not use ink but varying degrees of impact, the printer only sees shades of greyscale. Photos can be printed on metal surfaces but, of course, they shall be in monochrome.

The biggest advantage to this kind of engraving process is about to catch limited to a set font style. With the thousands of font styles to pick from these days, you can produce a most amazing charm, dog tag, ID pendant or most anything else you intend to identify. The impact printer will print on most any hard surface including plastic and acrylic but the best results are obtained on a highly polished white or gold metal.

I personally believe in this modern day naturally we all move more freely about this world, it may be more important especially regarding emergencies, or special medical needs, children, senior citizens to wear some sort of identification of who to contact in case there is emergencies. So, if we see the need in engraved dog tags or ID pendants, I would rather wear something that is at least of jewelery quality and can be customized to meet my own personal needs. Even our pets can have that extra special tag fully customized with as much or little information as you like including numerous cute clip art objects which can be printed on the tag.

Custom engraved dog tags made with the impact printer can be a bit more expensive because the set-up, design, editing needs to be done just as had you been printing out a picture or manuscript. The impact printer comes with its own editing software, but I've discovered digging in some form of professional photo editing software much improves the caliber of a photo if you're having a photo or clip art engraved on your custom dog tag. The most important thing is not be get overwhelmed with the possibilities. It's rather a simple engraved dog tag with several lines of text with selecting font to a very highly designed dog tag with your own personal special logos, photos and font choices. It is important is that it may be made just for you rather than from a machine with just one font choice and all it does is scratch the information onto an item of color aluminum or if you go the embossed route you have fewer choices.

Being in the jewelery manufacturing business for over 25 years, I know of a great deal of engraving, embossing, sublimation, laser engraving and etching. I personally believe the impact printing method for creating custom designed dog tags, ID pendants; etc provides the greatest range of choices available.
